⚔️ Fujiwara. The members of this clan were masters of politics in the Heian Period (794 - 1185). They carried out a strategy to ensure that they had a strong grip over the imperial court. The Fujiwara didn’t become emperors themselves, instead choosing to famously marry their daughters into the imperial family, allowing them control of the Heian court for 200 years.
⚔️ Taira. They were the strongest warrior clan in the Heian Period, until they fought the Genpei War against the Minamoto and won a trip to the bottom of the sea.
⚔️ Minamoto. The most famous warrior clan. They almost disappeared when Minamoto no Yoritomo was kicked out of the capital. After two decades in exile, he came back with an army and destroyed the Taira in the Genpei War. Then he created the first shogunate of Japan, a military government.
To show that they had a noble background and gain legitimacy, many later families claimed that they descended from the Minamoto.
