🦊 Nine-tailed Fox. This is a specific nine-tails: Tamamo-no-mae. She is super powerful and people feared her so much that long ago, they trapped her spirit inside a rock, called Sessho-seki, or the Killing Stone. Afterwards, anyone who touched it was cursed.

☀️ Amaterasu, the Shinto Sun Goddess. Have you heard of the famous legend of when the sun almost stopped shining? Amaterasu was upset at her brother Susano-o, and she sealed herself in a cave, plunging the world into darkness.

A bunch of gods got tired of tripping over things and came up with a plan to get her out. They had a big party, laughing and dancing, making a lot of noise. Amaterasu was curious as to why everyone was so happy, what with the sun missing and all, so she peeked outside.

She saw a shining light, as bright as her own. Thinking it was another light-giving goddess, she stepped out of the cave. Just then, a god pulled her out and another sealed the cave, bringing the sun's light back to the world.

🍈 Urikohime, or Melon Princess. She's from a famous Japanese folktale about a girl who was born from a melon, and was too trusting of strangers.
