Amaterasu did not have a great relationship with her brothers. In one story, she fought with her brother just because he came to see her.
One day, her brother Susano-o was kicked out of Heaven for being a troublemaker. He said, “Fine, but I want to see my dear sister before I go.”
Amaterasu flashed him a suspicious eye, and asked him to prove that he didn’t come to cause her trouble.
Susano-o proposed a ritual. They will both make children from items. If he made FEMALE children, then it meant his heart was impure. If he made MALE children, it meant his heart was pure. The logic escapes me at the moment.
Amaterasu agreed. She took Susano-o’s sword and made 3 gods from it, all female. Susano-o took jewels from Amaterasu and made 5 gods from it, and they all turned out male.
Susano-o proved his innocence. Dude just wanted to see his sister before he left.
